February’19 Layout

On this layout I added a simple backdrop to help isolate the toys from the background. This is a simple art paper that was sold in a 120″x10″ roll which I spray-glued onto cardboard cut into 3’x10″ panels (plus one panel trimmed to 2′ since my tables are 8′ wide). The effect is nice, though I really need something taller.

Here’s the rough track plan. This makes use of three A3 pieces, though only one was necessary.

  1. I’m looking for the Freight Battery Engine in red (number 4)
Is that really only available in the expensive Cargo Deluxe Set? Damn Brio. 🙁

    1. Yes, BRIO only sold it sets. You do see it occasionally pop up on eBay as a separate item, though, which is how I got mine.

          1. Found the Freight Crane Set for €41 + €9 shipping from Germany to Belgium, a total of €50.

            Standalone…

the (green) Freight Battery Engine is €18
            the Gantry Crane is €22
            a Mechanical Switch is €7

That already tallies up to €47. Throw in some much-needed freight wagons and some track and I think it’s a good deal.

          2. €50 seems like a good deal to me, too (new, it sold for €70 to €90).

This really was one of BRIO’s better values for a starter set.

          3. Note that red Feight #4 is also available in some unlisted brio set that you can find in europe. You will find them on amazon.fr and amazon.de. They are not cheaper than the above mentionned sets though.

            #33103 and #33934

How did I get mine? I walked into a local toy store and they had #33097 deluxe in their front window (not playable by kids, prestine condition). I offered the store owner to buy Freight #7 (#33214) and swap it with the #4 they had in the window. The owner was more than happy to make a sale and help me out!

          4. Hello JC,

That is quite the story! Very fun to read.

Thank you for suggesting the 2 other sets. I hadn’t seen those yet, or I did but when I did I didn’t pay attention to Freight Engine 4. Especially #33934 Large Countryside & Cargo Set seems like an OK value.

Judging from the SKU (33934) it seems like a recent set as well? I don’t know of anything else that starts with a number that high.
